Ingredients

1 cup rolled oats

1/2 cup natural peanut butter (with no added sugar)

1/3 cup pure maple syrup or honey

1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/4 teaspoon sea salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup dark chocolate chips or roughly chopped dark chocolate (70% cacao or higher)

Optional toppings: crushed nuts, shredded coconut, or a sprinkle of sea salt

Instructions

Prepare the Pan: Start by lining an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, making sure to leave some overhang on the edges. This will help you easily lift the bars out later.

Mix the Base: In a large mixing bowl, combine rolled oats, natural peanut butter, pure maple syrup (or honey), unsweetened cocoa powder, sea salt, and vanilla extract. Stir everything together until you achieve a thick and cohesive mixture.

Press into Pan: Pour the mixture into the lined baking pan. With the back of a spatula or using your hands, press it down firmly and evenly to form a compact layer.

Melt the Chocolate: Place the dark chocolate chips or chopped dark chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in the microwave using 30-second intervals, stirring well in between, until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth. Be cautious not to overheat to avoid burning the chocolate.

Add Chocolate Layer: Once melted, pour the chocolate over the pressed oat mixture in the pan. Using a spatula, spread the chocolate evenly across the surface for a smooth finish.

Add Toppings (Optional): If you’d like, sprinkle crushed nuts, shredded coconut, or a touch of sea salt over the melted chocolate. This adds delightful flavor and texture to your bars.

Chill: Place the prepared pan in the refrigerator, allowing the bars to chill for at least 1-2 hours, or until the chocolate has fully set.

Slice and Serve: After the mixture has set, gently lift the entire block out of the pan using the parchment overhang. Use a cutting board to slice into squares or rectangles as desired.

Storage: Keep any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week, or freeze them for longer storage.

Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 2 hours 15 minutes | Servings: 12 bars

                      - Presentation Tips: Serve the bars neatly stacked on a platter, with a drizzle of melted chocolate over the top and a garnish of crushed nuts or coconut for an appealing touch.
