Ingredients

For the Dough:

4 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup whole milk, warmed to 110°F

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

2 large eggs

For the Filling:

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature

1 cup packed brown sugar

2 tablespoons ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)

1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

For the Icing:

1 cup powdered sugar

2 tablespoons milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Prepare the Dough:

    - In a mixing bowl, combine the warmed milk (around 110°F) with granulated sugar. Sprinkle the active dry yeast evenly over the surface of the milk and let it sit undisturbed for 5-10 minutes, or until it becomes frothy.

      - In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the melted butter and eggs to the yeast mixture. Stir gently until all ingredients are well combined.

        - Gradually incorporate the flour mixture into the wet mixture, stirring until a sticky dough forms.

          Knead the Dough:

            - Transfer the dough onto a floured surface. Knead the dough for approximately 5-7 minutes, or until it feels smooth and elastic.

              - Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and set it in a warm area to rise for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

                Prepare the Filling:

                  - In a medium bowl, combine the softened butter, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and nutmeg (if using). Mix until all ingredients are thoroughly blended and create a smooth paste.

                    Roll Out the Dough:

                      - Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently to release air. Roll the dough out on a floured surface into a rectangle measuring approximately 16x24 inches and about 1/4 inch thick.

                        - Spread the filling mixture evenly over the surface of the dough, leaving a small border (about 1/2 inch) around the edges to prevent spillage when rolling.

                          Form the Rolls:

                            - Starting from one of the longer edges, carefully roll the dough tightly into a log shape. Pinch the seam to ensure it stays sealed.

                              - Slice the log into 12-15 equal pieces, each approximately 1.5 inches thick. Place these rolls in a greased baking dish, leaving a little space between each roll for them to expand.

                                Second Rise:

                                  - Cover the rolls with a clean kitchen towel and let them rise a second time in a warm area for about 30 minutes, or until they have puffed up noticeably.

                                    Bake:

                                      - Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

                                        - Bake the cinnamon rolls for 25-30 minutes, or until they turn a beautiful golden brown on top.

                                          Prepare the Icing:

                                            - While the rolls are baking, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl until the mixture is smooth. Adjust the icing's thickness with additional milk or powdered sugar as desired.

                                              Drizzle and Serve:

                                                - Once the rolls are done baking, remove them from the oven and allow them to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Drizzle the icing generously over the top of the warm rolls.

                                                  - Serve them warm and watch your loved ones enjoy these delightful Golden Brown Cinnamon Rolls!
