Ingredients

2 large heads of broccoli, cut into florets

4 cloves of garlic, minced

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese, divided

½ cup heavy cream

½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a kick)

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

1 tablespoon olive oil

½ cup breadcrumbs (Panko preferred for a crispy texture)

2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnishing)

Zest of 1 lemon (for added brightness)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 425°F (220°C). A hot oven will help achieve a beautifully roasted broccoli.

Prepare the Broccoli: In a large mixing bowl, combine the broccoli florets with olive oil, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if you like it spicy). Toss everything together until the broccoli is well coated with the oil and seasonings.

Roast the Broccoli: Transfer the seasoned broccoli to a baking sheet, spreading it out in a single, even layer. Roast it in the preheated oven for approximately 15 minutes, or until the edges become slightly crispy and the broccoli is fork-tender.

Make the Creamy Mixture: While the broccoli is roasting, whisk together the heavy cream and half of the grated Parmesan cheese in a small bowl. Add the lemon zest to the mixture for a fresh, zesty flavor, and stir until it's well combined.

Combine and Bake: After roasting, carefully remove the broccoli from the oven and transfer it to a baking dish. Pour the creamy Parmesan mixture over the broccoli, ensuring it is evenly distributed. Top with the remaining Parmesan cheese and then sprinkle the breadcrumbs over it for an extra crunchy finish.

Final Bake: Place the baking dish back in the oven and bake for an additional 10-12 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling with deliciousness.

Garnish and Serve: Once baked, remove the dish from the oven and let it cool for a couple of minutes. Just before serving, sprinkle freshly chopped parsley on top for a vibrant touch.
