Ingredients

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

4 slices of Swiss cheese

4 slices of ham (preferably prosciutto or thick-cut deli ham)

1 cup all-purpose flour

2 large eggs

1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko for extra crunch)

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste

½ cup vegetable oil, for frying

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Lemon wedges (for serving)

Instructions

Prepare the Chicken:

    - Place each chicken breast between two sheets of plastic wrap or parchment paper. Using a meat mallet or rolling pin, gently pound the chicken to an even thickness of about 1/4 inch. This ensures even cooking.

      - Season both sides of each breast generously with salt and pepper.

        Assemble the Cordon Bleu:

          - Lay one slice of ham on each flattened chicken breast, ensuring it covers the surface.

            - Top each slice of ham with a slice of Swiss cheese.

              - Starting from one end, carefully roll each chicken breast tightly to encase the ham and cheese inside.

                - Secure both ends with toothpicks to prevent the filling from spilling out during cooking.

                  Bread the Chicken:

                    - Set up your breading station: In one shallow bowl, place the flour. In a second bowl, whisk the eggs until fully combined. In a third bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with garlic powder, onion powder, and a pinch of salt.

                      - Dredge each rolled chicken piece in flour, shaking off any excess. Dip it into the beaten eggs, ensuring it’s coated evenly, and finally roll it in the breadcrumb mixture until thoroughly covered.

                        Fry the Chicken:

                          - In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Once the oil is shimmering, carefully place the chicken rolls in the skillet seam side down.

                            - Cook for 5-7 minutes on each side, or until the chicken is golden brown and fully cooked (internal temperature should reach 165°F/75°C). If your skillet isn’t large enough, you may fry in batches for better results.

                              - After frying, transfer the rolls to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil. Remove the toothpicks from the chicken once they’re cool enough to handle.

                                Serve:

                                  - Slice each chicken cordon bleu in half diagonally to showcase the gooey cheese and succulent ham filling.

                                    - Garnish with freshly chopped parsley for a pop of color and serve with lemon wedges on the side to brighten the flavors.

                                      Prep Time: 30 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour | Servings: 4

Presentation Tips: Serve the chicken cordon bleu on a warm plate, arrange the lemon wedges artistically next to the slices, and sprinkle a few more parsley leaves for an inviting visual appeal.
