Ingredients

1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust (store-bought or homemade)

1 cup pumpkin puree (canned or freshly made)

1 cup apple butter

3/4 cup packed brown sugar

2 large eggs

1/2 cup heavy cream

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

1/4 teaspoon salt

Optional: whipped cream or ice cream for serving

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 425°F (220°C). This hot initial temperature will help the crust to crisp up beautifully.

Prepare the Pie Crust: If you're using a homemade pie crust, roll it out evenly and fit it into a 9-inch pie dish. Be sure to trim any excess dough and use a fork to prick the bottom to prevent puffing during baking. For a store-bought crust, simply place it in the pie dish as directed on the packaging.

Mix the Filling: In a large mixing bowl, combine the pumpkin puree and apple butter. Add the brown sugar, eggs, heavy cream, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and salt. Using a whisk or electric mixer, blend everything together until the mixture is smooth and homogenous.

Pour the Filling: Carefully pour the silky pumpkin-apple butter filling into the prepared pie crust. Use a spatula to smooth the top, ensuring even distribution.

Bake the Pie: Place the pie in the center of the preheated oven. Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 15 minutes, then lower the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for an additional 35-40 minutes. You’ll know it’s done when the filling is set and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool the Pie: Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for at least 2 hours. This cooling period allows the filling to set properly for easier slicing.

Serve: Once cooled, slice your pie and serve it with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of your favorite ice cream, if desired. Relish in the delightful harmony of apple and pumpkin flavors!
